What’s In A Name
Charlee is learning new words and ways to express herself daily. It’s so cool to be part of her expanding world. She’s very proud of herself when she communicates her thoughts, feelings or desires with a word or sign language.
One word I will never get tired of hearing is “mama”. The first time she called me mama was in the drive way of our new home. We were getting ready to go look at the house, and she was sitting on my lap while we got situated. She looked up at me, patted me on my chest, and said (as clear as day), “Mama.” Mike was sitting in the driver’s seat, and we both looked at each other in surprise and amazement. Mike got teary-eyed, and I just soaked it all in. I loved hearing the sound and feeling of that special moment.
It wasn’t long after that that she said it all the time. The next time my “mama” was in town, she started calling her mama too. While that might be a touchy subject for some, it isn’t for me. I actually take it as a compliment. My mom is an amazing mom and if I’m half the mom she is, Charlee will be very fortunate. So the fact that she calls us the same thing makes me proud. It makes me realize that I’m doing a good job at being her mama. It’s the best job in the world, and I’m in awe that God chose me to for the job! What a blessing she is!
